New Stanford Coach Holds On To Recruits, Names Assistants

STANFORD (AP) - New Stanford coach David Shaw maintained continuity in his first recruiting class and is doing the same on his coaching staff.

Shaw salvaged nearly all the recruits who committed to former coach Jim Harbaugh. Perhaps his biggest net was linebacker James Vaughters of Stone Mountain, Ga., who ranks in the top five at his position on every major recruiting site.

Shaw also announced Wednesday two in-house promotions: Former receivers coach Pep Hamilton is now offensive coordinator, and Derek Mason moved from secondary coach to associate head coach and co-defensive coordinator.

Stanford also hired Jason Tarver as co-defensive coordinator. Tarver had been on staff the last 10 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, where Harbaugh took over as coach last month.
