Emeryville Company Looks To Integrate Mobile Technologies

EMERYVILLE (KCBS) – A Bay Area company is looking to make it possible to integrate several mobile devices in your life.

Emeryville-based MobiTV is linked with major U.S. carriers, handset manufacturers and major entertainment studios, focused on its efforts to distribute video content.

"We license content, we ingest that content, we transcode that content," said MobiTV Chief Marketing Officer Ray DeRenzo. "We stream that content over wireless networks onto devices."

KCBS' Jeff Bell Reports:

And DeRenzo said the scope of that content continues to grow.

"We're now able to deliver live football games and professional sporting events and primetime content," he said.

And with the proliferation of mobile devices and the rapid evolution of wireless networks, the growth of mobile video continues by leaps and bounds.

DeRenzo said the next step is convergence.

"Viewing the same content on your mobile phone, on your tablet, on your set-top box," he said. "And then having the ability to interact with that content."

DeRenzo said the challenge has been working with content providers to rethink their traditional licensing models.

But he said the demand is there, as the company claims its subscriber base now tops 15 million viewers.
