Missing Snowboarder Found Dead On Mount Shasta

MOUNT SHASTA (KCBS) - A four day search at the Mount Shasta Ski Park ended tragically Sunday morning, as search teams found the body of 23-year-old Alexander Gautreaux.

Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Allison Giannini said he had been reported missing on Thursday.

"We were able to, with the help of Verizon and some other technology, locate the cell phone, or a general search area for the cell phone" she said. "Then they searched that area and he was found, deceased at that time when we found him this morning at 9 o'clock."

An autopsy is planned, but Giannini said it appears Gautreaux was killed by the impact of a fall.

Rescue teams from across Northern California and Oregon had been involved in the search, including teams from San Mateo and Marin counties.

Gautreaux went missing at Mount Shasta Ski Park after calling his family around noon on Thursday, saying he was going to make one more run before returning home.
