Magnitude 4.4 Quake Rumbles Mendocino, Lake Counties

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST (AP) -- A light earthquake rumbled California's redwood country Tuesday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 shook parts of Mendocino and Lake counties at 8:49 p.m.

The quake was centered six miles of Lake Pillsbury in the Mendocino National Forest and 22 miles east of Willits.

A dispatcher at the Willits Police Department said a relative called to tell him about the temblor, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.

No one reported feeling it to the USGS.
