Former Belmont School Janitor Jailed On Molestation Charges

BELMONT (BCN) - A former Belmont middle school custodian suspected of groping a female student on campus in November last year was arrested Thursday at the conclusion of a four-month investigation into the allegation, Belmont police said.

Andre Edwards, 52, of Hayward, previously worked at Ralston Middle School, where he allegedly groped a female student, police said.

Edwards was arrested on a $200,000 warrant citing two felony counts of molesting a child, and police said Edwards was taken into custody Thursday at his Hayward home without incident.

Investigators uncovered additional information on a previously unsubstantiated allegation of child molestation from 2001, which resulted in the second count, police said.

During the investigation, Edwards ended his employment with the school district and is no longer associated with the school, according to police.

The results of the four-month investigation were provided to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, which issued an arrest warrant Wednesday.

Edwards was expected to be booked into jail Thursday.
