Aptos Spa Owner Arrested On Suspicion Of Credit Card Fraud

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- The former owner of a day spa in unincorporated Aptos was arrested Thursday on suspicion of credit card fraud, a Santa Cruz County sheriff's spokeswoman said Friday.

Sonya Harting, 35, the former owner of Spoiled Rotten Day Spa at 9039 Soquel Drive, was arrested Thursday after clients reported several thousand dollars of fraudulent credit card charges paid to the business, according to the sheriff's office.

One victim reported his credit card had been fraudulently used four separate times for a total of $9,600.

Investigators also learned that Harting had been evicted on Jan. 5 by the building's owner for failing to pay her monthly rent, but had continued selling gift certificates during the holiday season, sheriff's Deputy April Skalland said.

Anyone who bought a gift certificate from the spa in December that could not be redeemed due to the business closing is encouraged to call the property crimes unit of the sheriff's office at (831) 454-2311.
