(CBS 5) – We were supposed to sign up, and the phone should have stopped ringing. But all has not gone as planned. Bill Schilz in Martinez asked this Good Question: The Do-Not-Call list has been around for a while, why am I still getting unwanted calls?

ANSWER: The “Do-Not-Call” registry was enacted in 2003. But according to Joe Ridout with Consumer Action, people continue to receive calls by telemarketers who have gone offshore. Many of these aggressive marketers believe wrongly that U.S. laws don’t apply to them. Ridout said most Smart Phones come with software to block calls and people should use it. There are exceptions to the law which include charities, political campaigns and legitimate surveys or pollsters.
