University Of California Considers Controversial Flex Tuition
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - The University of California is considering different tuition costs at its 10 campuses.
It means, for example, a UCLA or UC Berkeley student could pay more for an education than those attending schools such as UC Riverside.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
Proponents of the plan say demand should set flex pricing. But detractors say it's elitist.
UC officials are struggling with California budget reductions that have already led to tuition increases, layoffs and cuts in class offerings.
Many other state university systems have already gone with flex tuition rates.
