CoCo County Supervisors Want Mandatory Impounded Dog Neutering

CONCORD (CBS 5) - Contra Costa County dog owners who fail to keep tabs on their pets may soon be forced to pay the price of getting them clipped and chipped.

The county's Board of Supervisors is backing a pair of ordinances that would give dog owners two strikes when it comes to their animal being impounded before the dog is spayed or neutered at the owner's expense.

Animals leaving the shelter would also be microchipped with tracking devices to monitor potentially dangerous animals on the streets.

The ordinances were prompted by a series of violent incidents, including the fatal mauling of two-year-old Jacob Bisbee in Concord last summer.
