Speaker Boehner Wraps Bay Area Fundraising Trip In Silicon Valley

MENLO PARK (CBS/AP) - Republican House Speaker John Boehner capped a two-day visit to the Bay Area with a fundraising event hosted by executives from Hewlett-Packard and Applied Materials.

It was the Ohio congressman's first trip to the region since taking the position that puts him second in the line of presidential succession.

About 100 attended Tuesday night's private event in Menlo Park hosted by Michael Holston, HP's general counsel, and Michael Splinter, Applied Materials' chief executive. Guests paid at least $2,500 each.

On Monday night, Boehner appeared at a fundraiser at San Francisco's Ritz-Carlton Hotel that benefited his own campaign and the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Boehner's last visit was in 2009, when he visited Google and Facebook to discuss innovation and job creation.
