OAKLAND (CBS SF) — They are known for fast cars, showboating, and often times violence, and now a young mother is one of two people shot and killed during a sideshow near the East Bay Dragons Motorcycle Club in Oakland.

A block party broken by the sound of gunfire. The shots were captured by a couple of film students recording a documentary Sunday night. In the video, the party dissolves into chaos, sirens wailed and witnesses screamed.

One man passing the camera can be seen carrying a handgun. Oakland Police have confirmed they’re reviewing the video, but say it’s too early to call a suspect.

“Powerless. That’s how I felt. Powerless,” said film student Lauren Richardson, who watched the chaos unfold from behind the lens and said the man in the video wasn’t the only one carrying a gun. “They were just shooting randomly. It seemed like one person heard a gunshot, and anybody else who had a gun in the area just started shooting.”

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at 88th Avenue and International Boulevard at about 9:20 p.m., Officer Holly Joshi said.

Caught in the gunfire was 29-year-old Eric Bush of San Leandro, and a mother of two, 28-year-old Latoya Kenny, of Union City. Both were killed.

“I don’t even know her so I can just imagine what her family was going through. They were right there,” said Richardson.

Right there, back at the scene, CBS5 found Kenny’s family grieving Monday, reliving the moment she found her daughter dead.

“[I said], ‘You have your babies to go home to,’ you know, I’m trying to beg her. ‘Latoya, get up!’ She took like two deep breaths, she had a pulse for a minute and then no pulse,” said Vanessa Burnett, Kenny’s mother.

A third woman shot survived, but was hospitalized in critical condition.

“It’s not OK to just shoot into a crowd. There was children out there. Ya’al are killing innocent people,” said Richardson.

There are no suspects and no arrests yet.

Some witnesses, including Richardson, were upset that police were not patrolling the area, despite the fact that hundreds of people were out there for the Memorial Day block party.
