Good Question: Do Ocean Waves Really Come In Sets?

(CBS 5) –- Most of us can't tell what tomorrow will bring, but the trained surfer can. Sammy in Redwood City asked this Good Question: Do ocean waves really come in sets?

ANSWER: Ryan Morgan of the Aqua Surf Shop in San Francisco pays plenty of attention to waves and said they definitely come in sets. Morgan said wave sets are a result of wind, weather and wave pulse.

He said the farther away a storm is the farther spaced the wave sets are when they reach shore. Wave sets can also be measured and there are a number of websites that track the information, including NOAA's site on ocean conditions.
