Daily Madden: The T.O. And Tiger Comparison

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Receiver Terrell Owens has said he has no intention of retiring and plans to return to the NFL following his recent ACL surgery.

John Madden told the KCBS morning crew that the decision to play again isn't his alone.

"The thing that you have to remember is that the ball really isn't in his court because he doesn't have a contract," Madden said. "He's a free agent. So someone has to sign him, and I'm not sure there are a lot of clubs out there that are looking to sign him."

Owens' agent said T.O., now 37 years old, should be ready to play again by August. But is that wishful thinking?

"Tiger Woods is going through this right now. You can't come back until you're ready, you really can't," Madden said. "You can say I want to be back in four months or five months or six months and then come back and try and tough through it. But after a surgery and a rehab that doesn't work. You can work through certain injuries, but surgeries and rehabs, you have to give them their normal time."
