Silicon Valley Tech Start-Ups Providing Perks Again

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Gourmet lunches, yoga classes and free daycare. Those are just some of the free perks being offered by tech companies in Silicon Valley to lure in top talent.

Many employees at companies like Google have become used to "luxury" items like free food and massages. But that has become the norm at many start-ups as well.

Airbnb, the San Francisco room-rental website has roof-top barbecues and "Yoga Tuesdays." Facebook holds regular game days and online storage site DropBox has a rock room where employees can play guitars and drums.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

Daniel Greenberg, Chief Marketing Officer with the jobs website SimplyHire.com, said the perks are unique to the tech sector.

"While the rest of the company is taking it on the chin and unemployment rates are still at nearly an all-time high, the tech market is on fire," said Greenberg.

He said start-ups are eager to lure in top talent and retain them by offering these freebies.
