Northern California Home Sales Down 5%

SAN FRANCISCO (AP/CBS SF) - Home sales in the San Francisco Bay Area appear to have gotten a minor boost in June, but activity was still slower than it was a year earlier.

San Diego-based DataQuick said in recent a report that nearly 8,000 homes sold in the nine-county area in June, up nearly 15 percent from around 7,000 in May. That's nearly three times the increase usually seen between May and June.

But June 2011's sales were nearly 5 percent lower than the roughly 8,400 posted in June 2010.

DataQuick also said that the median price for a home in the region was down about 8 percent to $377,750 from $410,000 in June 2010, but up nearly 2 percent from $372,000 in May.

Foreclosures accounted for about 26 percent of all resales.
