Daily Madden: An NFL Pre-Season Like No Other

OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Oakland Raiders face the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL exhibition opener at the Oakland Coliseum Thursday night.

"It's going to be interesting this pre-season, with no off-season camp, to see if in trying to make that up, more of the teams will play their veterans more," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "You're going to see some mistakes obviously, and you're going to see some players you never heard of make big plays."

Madden said these pre-season games will be challenging for all teams.

"The piece that's really going to be tough is that developmental piece... You just don't have enough time, and if you don't have enough time, you don't have enough reps."

Turning to baseball, John noted that the San Francisco Giants are 4-10 since Manager Bruce Bochy gave up his number 15 for new outfielder Carlos Beltran.

"I wonder if he (Bochy) is thinking about that. When you lose, you do think about a lot of things... You don't know what's to blame... He may have to take that number back... That's what I would do." (7:40)
