HOLLYWOOD (CBS SF/LA) — They’ve got the beat and now they’ve got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The pioneering all-female rock band the Go-Go’s received the 2,444th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday, August 11th, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the release of their landmark debut album, “Beauty and the Beat.”
Group members Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine Jane Wiedlin and San Francisco resident, Gina Schock were on hand for the ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, in front of the now-shuttered nightclub The Masque, where they played their first show.READ MORE: SF City Planners Won't Allow Taqueria El Farolito In North Beach Due To 'Chain Store' Ban

The group was formed in 1978 as a punk band with Carlisle on vocals, Wiedlin on guitar and vocals, Margot Olavarria on bass and Elissa Bello on drums. Caffey, Schock and Valentine later joined the group, on lead guitar and keyboards, drums and bass, respectively.
“Beauty and the Beat” spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, the first time an all-female group that wrote its own songs and played its own instruments topped the Billboard album chart. “Beauty and the Beat” sold in excess of 3 million copies and was certified as double platinum.READ MORE: Fmr. Their 1982 follow-up album “Vacation” was certified gold. They recorded a third album, “Talk Show,” before breaking up in 1985.
The group has reunited a few times since, and in 1994, recorded three new recordings for the two-disc retrospective “Return to the Valley of the Go-Go’s.” They have toured regularly since 1999.
