Firefighters Battle Fast-Moving Fairfield Grass Fire

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- A vegetation fire that had burned 750 acres on the northeastern edge of Fairfield was 60 percent contained by firefighters and no longer threatened any homes, fire officials said Sunday.

The fire was first reported in the area of Torrington Way and Mystic Drive shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, and it spread to the northeast toward Vacaville, Fairfield Fire Chief Vincent Webster said.

The fire reached the maximum possible level of eight alarms Saturday night, Webster said. Cal Fire dispatchers said it was not expected to be completely extinguished until sometime Sunday evening.

KCBS' Bob Butler Reports:

CalFire and area fire departments deployed 250 firefighters, 25 fire engines, one helicopter and three bulldozers to tackle the fire.
