Toy Gun Ineffective In San Francisco Cab Robbery; 1 Arrested

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man was arrested and another is being sought after the pair allegedly used a plastic toy gun to try to rob a taxi driver in San Francisco's Western Addition neighborhood on Monday night, police said.

The attempted robbery was reported at 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of O'Farrell and Beideman streets.

The two suspects got into the cab and gave the 34-year-old driver their destination. When they arrived at the intersection, they demanded money. One pulled out a gun and the other simulated that he had a gun, according to police.

The cabbie grabbed the gun, realized it was a fake, and got out of his cab to call 911, police said.

At that point, one of the suspects fled while the other stayed and ransacked the taxi. That suspect, a 53-year-old whose name was not immediately available, was arrested, according to police.

The suspect who fled remains at large. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
