Tech Report: Apple Launches iTunes Match Service

CUPERTINO (KCBS) -- Apple released its newest version of iTunes with a new feature called Match.

"Match allows you to take the music you have on your PC or Mac and kind of upload it to iCloud," said KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid.

Rather than uploading the music, Magid said, you can access your music via the cloud.

Magid said he had hoped it would be released with the latest iPhone, but Apple apparently wanted to wait to be sure everything worked correctly.

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:

Magid said Apple received permission from the music companies, unlike some other companies that had tried similar services before, only to be shut down.
