Guns, Drugs Found During Sonoma County Speeding Stop
SONOMA (CBS SF) - A pickup truck driver who was pulled over for speeding near Lake Sonoma on Saturday afternoon was found with several unregistered guns in his truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A CHP officer stopped the truck, driven by Daniel Edward Young, 49, of Cloverdale, after seeing it traveling at 46 mph in a 30 mph zone on Skaggs Spring Road around 12:30 p.m., CHP officials said.
The officer learned that Young's driver's license had expired in 2005, and noticed that the interior of the truck smelled like marijuana, according to the CHP.
A search of the truck revealed a handgun, a rifle and a shotgun—all of which were unregistered. The handgun was concealed and within Young's reach, CHP officials said.
The officer also found a pipe and a small amount of marijuana.
According to the CHP, Young has an extensive criminal record. He was arrested on charges including driving while unlicensed and being in possession of a concealed firearm, an unregistered firearm, and marijuana.
