San Francisco Ballet Brings 'The Nutcracker' To Sick Children

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Dancers with the San Francisco Ballet performed parts of "The Nutcracker" for children at a hospital in the city's Presidio Heights neighborhood Tuesday.

The dancers performed selected excerpts from the ballet for sick children at California Pacific Medical Center's California Campus on California Street.

The performances took place both in the hospital's family playroom and in individual rooms for children who are too sick to get out of bed.

KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:

"We kind of put together a sweet version of our Nutcracker to show the kids, and just share with the people here what we're doing," said dancer Garren Scribner, who plays the part of the nutcracker doll.

The kids were enchanted by the fancy dance moves and colorful costumes. They were also happy to have signed posters from the dancers.

The dance company will be performing "The Nutcracker" from Dec. 9-27 at the War Memorial Opera House at 301 Van Ness Ave.
