NorCal Mom Faces Attempted Murder Charge In Son Drugging, Throat-Slashing

RED BLUFF, Tehama County (CBS/AP) - A Tehama County woman accused of giving her 13-year-old son an overdose of pills and slashing his throat with a knife has been charged with attempted murder.

Forty-year-old Theresa Garcia-Lewis was arraigned on Thursday in Tehama County Superior Court on two counts of attempted murder as well as assault and child abuse charges. The arraignment was continued until Dec. 20.

Red Bluff police said Garcia-Lewis gave her son an overdose of pills on Monday and again Tuesday, when she also slashed his throat. The boy was found bleeding and drugged by his aunt at his apartment later that day.

Police said Garcia-Lewis has acknowledged trying to kill the boy although her motive is unknown.

The boy was recovering at a hospital in Chico.
