Moraga Campolindo High Loses Division III Crown To Fresno Washington Union, 21-16

MORAGA (CBS SF/AP) -- Moraga Campolindo High committed five turnovers, two inside Fresno Washington Union's 20-yard line, allowing Washington Union to escape with a 21-16 victory and the California State Division III Championship Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

Chris Cain led Washington Union, scoring two touchdowns and throwing for another. Though the Panthers (14-0) were held below their 44.5 points-per-game average, the three touchdowns were enough.

Campolindo (14-1), picked to finish last in its league, used an aggressive defense to keep the game close. The Cougars cut into the Panthers' 14-3 lead with a 2:57 left in the third quarter on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Brett Stephens to Griffin Piatt.

Cain's second touchdown, with 8:18 remaining in the game, gave the Panthers a 21-10 lead.

A 19-yard touchdown reception by Campolindo's Mason Windatt with 44 seconds left gave the Cougars hope, but they were unable to recover the onside kick.
