Labor Leaders Defend Oakland Mayor Quan Against Recall Effort

OAKLAND (KCBS) --- Labor leaders in Oakland said they will help Mayor Jean Quan defeat the campaign to recall her from office.

Machinists, dockworkers, electricians and other members of the Alameda Labor Council gathered on Monday to announce they want the recall stopped and if it qualifies for the ballot, they will campaign to help Quan.

Union leader Josie Camacho said Quan doesn't deserve to lose her job over the way she handled Occupy Oakland.

KCBS' Doug Sovern Reports:

"That isn't reason to recall a mayor," she said. "I think that's ridiculous."

But recall organizer Charles Pine said it's the voters who want Quan gone.

"She has diminishing support," he said. "Her approval rating is hovering at about 30 percent or less."
