Tech Report: New Website Turns YouTube Into Music Player

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A software developer has come up with a new website that turns YouTube into a music player.

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said Tubalr will make the music listening and watching experience much easier for YouTube users.

"You type in the name of your favorite artist and what Tubalr will do is create a playlist for you on YouTube of those artist's recordings," said Magid. "So you can see and hear the artist perform. You can either click only, which means all you'll get is that artist or you can click similar which means you'll get artists like them."

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:

Magid said the website is a bit different from others which offer similar services like Pandora or Spotify because of the video aspect of YouTube.

"Because it's video, it's going to take up more bandwidth. It has a similarity to Pandora as it's conceptually similar," he said. "But Pandora focuses on music directly from the recording companies so you're getting the original recording. The YouTube video may be an original recording, it may be a concert or it might be some guy with a cellphone."

Magid said the site has a large database for famous artists and those that might be smaller, local bands as well.
