Bay Area Home Sales On The Rise As Prices Dip
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - A research firm reports bargain-hunters are boosting home sales in the San Francisco Bay area as prices continue to slide.
DataQuick said Wednesday that December home sales in the nine-county region reached nearly 7,500, up more than 4 percent from the same period of 2010.
The median price for new and existing homes and condos fell to $351,500. That represents a decline of more than 6 percent from a year earlier.
DataQuick said many transactions were foreclosed homes and short sales. Sales of homes that cost at least a half-million dollars were down, while sales of homes costing less rose.
