San Francisco Prosecutor Arrested On One Count Of Domestic Violence

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A San Francisco prosecutor was booked and released from county jail on Saturday on one count of domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

Officials with the San Francisco Sheriff's Office said Assistant District Attorney Sanaz Nikaein was booked and released Saturday afternoon.

The details of the arrest are still not clear at this time and it is still not certain if Nikaein will be facing charges.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

This news comes as the San Francisco District Attorney's Office prepares to prosecute a domestic violence case involving Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, who is facing misdemeanor charges of domestic violence battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness, all stemming from an incident involving his wife, Eliana Lopez, on New Year's Eve.

Mirkarimi has pleaded not guilty in the case and Lopez denies that any violence occurred.

Nikaein helped prosecute the case of a wheelchair-bound homeless man accused of assaulting a San Francisco police officer with a knife last January.

Police fired two shots at the defendant in that case, Randall Duncan, after prosecutors said he disobeyed repeated orders to drop the knife. The jury ultimately acquitted Duncan of the assault charges.

A spokesperson for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said the California Attorney General's Office is handling the investigation.
