Oakland Police Standoff With Barricaded Suspect, Child Ends Peacefully

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A police standoff involving a barricaded suspect with a child in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood ended peacefully Monday morning, according to authorities.

Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said the situation started about 2:00 a.m. in the area of Brookdale Avenue and Capp Street on a report of a domestic dispute.

The unidentified suspect subsequently barricaded himself in the home with his toddler daughter, police said.

Approximately 5 hours later, police and SWAT teams were able to convince the man to release the girl, who is reportedly just 3 years old. The suspect, who was not initially identified, surrendered a short time later.

During the standoff, police established a command post at the corner of Fruitvale and Brookdale Avenues.
