Daily Madden: Teammate Weighs In On Wilt's 100 Point Game

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Sports fans are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain's 100 point game when his Philadelphia Warriors beat the New York Knicks in 1962.

Teammate Tom Meschery told John Madden and the KCBS morning crew that achievement overshadowed Chamberlain's other amazing accomplishment.

"Wilt was averaging 50 points a game that year," Meschery said. "In many ways that 50-point-a-game average was even more astounding than the 100 point game."

Can it happen again?

"Not a chance in God's green earth," Meschery said.

"I agree with Tom on that one," Madden said.

John asked Meschery to compare Chamberlain to University of San Francisco  and NBA star Bill Russell.

"Wilt was the better all around basketball player by far... he could destroy anybody," Meschery said. "As a team player and as a guy who knew the game and who could play his position for all it was worth... Bill Russell was by far better than Wilt." (9:00)
