SALINAS (CBS SF) – A Salinas High School drug and alcohol counselor who is suspected of filming students having sex in his office has been charged with 19 felonies, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

Over the weekend, police found a number of videos of students engaging in sexual activity—seemingly unaware that they were being filmed—in the office of Gilbert Olivares, 34, Salinas police Sgt. Chris Lane said.

Police believe the videos were recorded using a hidden cellphone, and Lane said Olivares “appears in the beginning, setting up camera.”

Investigators have also found scores of videos and images of child pornography on one of Olivares’ four computers, Lane said. They are still examining the three other computers.

Olivares was first arrested on March 14 when police responded to a tip from a student’s family members, who reported suspicious communication between Olivares and the student via Facebook, police said.

Police then executed a search warrant at Olivares’ home.

After finding child pornography on one of Olivares’ computers, police obtained a second arrest warrant for Olivares, who had been released on $50,000 bail, Lane said.

Olivares could not immediately be located when police sought to arrest him again, Lane said. However, after police spoke with Olivares’ lawyer on Monday night, he turned himself in.

At least one additional victim has come forward to speak with police, Lane said.

Olivares’ bail is now set at $1 million dollars.

The charges against him include producing child pornography, possessing child porn, showing obscene matter to a minor, and committing a lewd and lascivious act with a person 14 or 15 years old when the perpetrator is more than 10 years older, Monterey County Chief Assistant District Attorney Terry Spitz said.

Olivares was set to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.

Although Olivares was an employee of Sunrise House, a drug addiction treatment and recovery center, he worked out of Salinas High School for five years. A representative of Sunrise House could not immediately be reached.
