Officer, Suspect Hospitalized After Stockton Shootout

STOCKTON (CBS/AP) - A police officer and a suspect have been wounded in a late night shooting in north Stockton.

Det. Joe Silva said the shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday as the Stockton officer attempted to carry out a police check on Colt Drive.

There was an exchange of gunfire that left both the officer and the suspect wounded. Both were rushed to hospitals.

Silva said early Thursday that the officer was in stable condition. He didn't have any details on the suspect's wounds. No names were released.

The detective said the suspect is accused of shooting the officer and no other suspects are being sought.

He didn't provide any further information on what led up to the shootings or how they occurred.

Silva said police will provide more information later Thursday.
