Scotts Valley Man Arrested For Lewd Acts With Teenage Girl

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A Scotts Valley man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl, a police spokesman said Thursday.

David Escobar, 42, was arrested for allegedly committing lewd acts on a minor, for contacting a minor with the intent to have sex and sending inappropriate images to a minor, police said.

The arrest came after a nearly month-long investigation prompted by a tip from one of the girl's parents about inappropriate contact between the Scotts Valley man and the teen, according to Santa Cruz police spokesman Zach Friend.

Detectives found nearly 3,800 text messages that Escobar had sent to the girl in one month and found that he had communicated with her via Facebook and online gaming networks during that time.

The 42-year-old met with the victim at her school during lunch breaks, when the two would engage in sex acts in his car, police said.

Police are investigating whether Escobar victimized any other minors and are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Santa Cruz Police Department at (831) 420-5820 or to leave an anonymous tip at (831) 420-5995.
