SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) — Aaron Gordon had 33 points and 20 rebounds as Archbishop Mitty of San Jose defeated Las Costa Canyon of Carlsbad, 78-57, to win the California boys’ Division II championship Friday at Power Balance Pavilion.

Gordon, just a junior, threatened his own state championship record of 21 rebounds, set last year, but came out of the game with 1:14 left after Mitty (31-3) had put the game away. Gordon’s challenge to the record came as part of the Monarchs’41-25 domination of the boards.
