SF Mayor Promises Changes Following Mission Vandalism
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – This week's vandalism in San Francisco's Mission District will lead to changes in police tactics, that according to San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee.
What many merchants along Valencia Street still can't understand is how so much damage was done so quickly right across the street from a police station.
KCBS' Janice Wright Reports:
"The small business owners on Valencia have every right to be angry," said San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee.
Now, Lee said talks are underway about possible new police tactics in the future.
"We won't unveil those until the next time, but I think we'll be adequately more ready," he said.
Merchants did appreciate the walkthroughs police did the day after the violence on Monday.
"It provided some assurance," said Bar Tartine General Manager Vinny Eng.
One response that was not appreciated was at Weston Wear, which received a reprimand from the San Francisco Department of Public Works about graffiti on their boarded up windows, which had been smashed out.
"We had a citation warning taped up to the boards to have the graffiti removed within 30 days or we could be subject to fines," said store manager Bridget Moore.
But when word of the citation went viral, Moore said they got an official apology from city officials.
