Former Friend Charged In Shooting Death Of Oakland 15-Year-Old

OAKLAND (CBS/AP) - A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his friend after the pair argued in an east Oakland park.

Police said 15-year-old Shonte Daniels Jr. was shot around 2 a.m. on April 21 at Arroyo Viejo Park. The Oakland Tribune reports that Daniels managed to get help at a nearby house before dying a short time later.

Police said Daniels and the suspect had been hanging out at a friend's house before the shooting, then went to the park. Officer Steven Bang says the 14-year-old shot his friend of four years because he felt disrespected by something he said.

The suspect was arrested on April 28 carrying the gun used in the fatal shooting.

In addition to murder, the suspect is charged with two gun-related counts.
