Soldier From Alameda Killed In Afghanistan

ALAMEDA (KCBS) – The United States Department of Defense announced on Tuesday that an Army soldier from Alameda was killed in combat in Afghanistan over the weekend.

Officials said that 30-year-old Staff Sgt. Thomas Fogarty died on Sunday in Ahmad-Kheyl, Afghanistan.

Officials said he died from injuries he sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Fogarty was assigned to the 3rd Battalion (Airborne) 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.
