Daily Madden: Hecklers At The Players Championship

(KCBS) - Matt Kuchar won the Players Championship in Florida Sunday in a tournament marked by some spectators heckling third round leader Kevin Na.

"He just seemed kind of vulnerable, and I thought (the hecklers) kind of took advantage of the situation," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "He's a young kid. He was going well. He was putting well. And then the wheels started to fall off and you could kind of just feel it...and then the fans kind of jumped on him and I thought that was unfair, because golf fans don't do that.

"If that were basketball or baseball or boxing or some other sport, you would expect it because fans do heckle. But fans don't heckle in golf and then when you hear it, it really sounds out of place. When you expect quiet and something jumps in there it kind of gets to your nerves."

Na is a slow deliberate player who appears to have trouble committing to a shot.

"It was kind of a bully-type feeling, you know that they kind of jumped on him because he was vulnerable." Na finished seventh, five strokes behind Kuchar. (8:30)
