Sacramento Sheriff's Deputy Shoots, Kills Robbery Suspect

SACRAMENTO (CBS / AP) -- A suspect in a string of robberies outside of Sacramento has been shot and killed by a Sacramento County sheriff's deputy.

Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos says when two deputies were responding to a gas station that had just been robbed around at 6 a.m. Saturday they saw a man on a motorcycle fitting the description of a suspect who had held up two other nearby businesses earlier in the morning.

Ramos says the motorcyclist led the deputies on a brief pursuit that ended after he suddenly braked and the patrol car hit the motorcycle.

As the suspect ran from the deputies, Ramos says he abruptly turned toward them and reached into his waistband area.

One of the deputies, fearing the suspect may have been reaching for a weapon, shot the suspect. Ramos says the suspect, who has not been named, had simulated having a gun during the robberies.
