5-Year-Old Killed By Minivan In Richmond

RICHMOND (CBS SF) - A 5-year-old boy was fatally struck by a car Saturday in the Richmond neighborhood of Parchester Village.

Richmond police received notification of the incident at 4:15 p.m., just after the boy was struck by a minivan on Jenkins Way, according to Sgt. Roger Buhlis of the Richmond Police.

The boy was taken to Doctors Medical center in San Pablo, then air lifted to Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland, but succumbed to his injuries sometime around 8 p.m., according to Buhlis.

The driver of the minivan was not suspected of any wrongdoing, Buhlis said, and police do not believe that alcohol, drugs, or speed were contributing factors.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, Buhlis said police suspect that the boy was hit after he ran into the street.
