Residents Lament Latest San Francisco Mission District Pedestrian Accident

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man walking across San Francisco's busy Valencia Street was struck by a car Saturday night, and subsequently hospitalized for injuries he sustained int he accident - the second pedestrian accident in the area in a week.

People who live and work in the area say, unfortunately, they're not surprised.

19th and Valencia, like a lot of intersections in the Mission District, is busy by day and busy by night. Cars and trucks hurry past those on foot, making for a potentially dangerous situation for everyone.

The man struck this past weekend wasn't immediately identified, though witnesses report that he was injured Saturday night as he crossed Valencia.

"It's always on the back of my mind when crossing the street, I'm always looking out because not only drivers are careful," one female pedestrian said. "I'm always scanning the scene, looking at cars. Definitely that's a worry."

Just days earlier, another pedestrian was struck in the Mission District, not many intersections away.
