Bloody, Unconscious Man Found At El Cerrito Del Norte BART Station

EL CERRITO (KCBS) - A man beaten unconscious during an apparent robbery at El Cerrito Del Norte station does not remember the circumstances of the attack, Bay Area Rapid Transit police said Thursday.

A station agent found the victim unconscious and bleeding in the bus zone shortly after a rider reported an altercation outside the station around 7 p.m. on June 19, said Officer Era Jenkins, spokeswoman for the BART Police Department.

"We're seeking the public's help because the person who was injured doesn't remember what happened," she said.

Jenkins said the man told police he was missing some money, but could not recall what happened at the BART station or how he was injured. She said the rider who alerted the station agent to the fight did not remain at the station to provide BART police with a statement, so investigators do not have a description of the attacker or any information about what led to the confrontation.

The victim was treated at a local hospital and later released.

Jenkins urged anyone with information about the incident to call the BART police investigations section at (510) 464-7040 or the confidential hotline at (510) 464-7011. Tips can also be emailed to Detective Jon Woffinden at jwoffin@bart.gov.
