Vacaville Police Seek Witnesses In Fatal July 4th Beating

VACAVILLE (KCBS) — Police in Vacaville have not found a suspect in the fatal assault of a 20-year-old man earlier this month, and are urging witnesses to come forward.

Tyler Grande of Vacaville suffered blunt force trauma to the head in a vicious assault on the night of July 4th. Grande died at UC Davis Medical Center a few days later.

Vacaville Police Sgt. Jeff King said they are aggressively working on the case.

KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:

"Our initial investigation has indicated that what he was attempting to do was break up a physical fight between two adult males. While he was doing so, somebody attacked him from behind," King said.

The assault happened at a big holiday block party on the 100 block of Garden Circle. Lt. John Carli said at the time of the assault, there were at least 60 people who were present.

Kathy Pierce, the victim's mother, said her son was a giving person and didn't deserve this.

"He wouldn't turn his back on anyone. He was at the park earlier that night collecting money for a funeral for a friend who had just died in an accident that Sunday," she said.

Pierce is asking possible witnesses to talk to police so they can solve this crime.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Vacaville Police at (707) 449-5200 or Detective Chris Lechuga at (707) 449-5269.
