San Francisco Man Drowns In Lake Berryessa

NAPA (CBS SF) - Divers Monday afternoon recovered the body of a San Francisco man who drowned in Lake Berryessa in Napa County on Sunday afternoon, a sheriff's captain said.

The body of Kevin Yip, 24, was found just after noon in 55 feet of water in the Pleasure Cove area of the lake, Napa County sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said. An autopsy was tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.

Yip was on a pontoon boat with several people when he decided to take a swim around 3:10 p.m. He was not wearing a flotation device and was seen struggling in the water before he disappeared, Stuart said.

A person who heard screaming in the Pleasure Cove area called the sheriff's office, Stuart said.

The divers got "ballpark coordinates" Sunday afternoon of where Yip was last seen, Stuart said.

Five divers went to the lake Monday morning and searched the "zero visibility" water for about an hour before they found Yip's body, Stuart said.
