SAN MATEO (CBS SF) - 20th Century Fox released the new movie trailer for "Chasing Mavericks" (previously titled "Of Men and Mavericks") on Monday. "Mavericks" was filmed in San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties and stars Gerard Butler, Jonny Weston, Elisabeth Shue and Abigail Spencer. Based on the true story of surf legend, Jay Moriarty (Weston) and his quest to surf Northern California's most dangerous breaks, known as Mavericks. A local surf legend, Frost Hesson (Butler) takes Moriarty under his wing and what begins as a mentorship turns into a unique lifelong bond, as the two unlikely friends discover that there is nothing more powerful than pushing your limits and chasing a nearly impossible dream.

While filming in San Mateo, street closures were prompted as filmmakers shot in-town scenes. When word got out that Gerard Butler may be filming, many flocked to the location to get a glimpse of the sex symbol. The second time Butler made headlines, filmmakers were shooting off the coast of Half Noon Bay, as Butler was paddling out with competitive surfers Greg Long, Zach Wormhoudt and Peter Mel. When a 15-foot wave submerged Butler underwater. A safety patrolman on a Jet Ski swooped in and safely picked up the movie star. Butler was taken by ambulance to Stanford Medical Center for examination, and was later released.

"Chasing Mavericks" is set to release in theaters October 26.
