"The Films of John Huston" at the Castro will feature 12 of the filmmaker's classic movies in six double features throughout August, said Kevin Arnold, the theater's film programmer and general manager.

"We're very excited to feature the staggering work of John Huston as part of our special 90th anniversary month," Arnold said. "Seeing these classic films on the big screen, in the grandeur of the Castro Theatre, is going to be a rare treat for movie-lovers."

The John Huston retrospective features some of the moviemaker's most beloved films, such as The Maltese Falcon, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, The African Queen, Chinatown and The Asphalt Jungle.

Filmgoers are invited to take in the Castro Theater's 1920s architecture and design in the 1400-plus-seat auditorium, which has been the backdrop of numerous awards ceremonies, film festivals, concerts, plays and other events, Arnold said.
