String Of Cell Phone Robberies Plague SF Divisadero Street Corridor

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco police were investigating a string of cellphone robberies and other incidents along the Divisadero Street corridor in the past two weeks.

The series of crimes began at 10:53 a.m. on July 28 with the snatching of a cellphone at Divisadero and Eddy streets, according to police.

Another cellphone snatching occurred at the same location on Aug. 2 about 11:25 p.m., while a third occurred nearby at Divisadero Street and Geary Boulevard at 12:39 p.m. last Sunday, police said.

Two other incidents, in which the suspect flashed or simulated a gun, have also occurred in the area in the past two weeks.

Police were encouraging people to be aware of their surroundings, particularly when using cellphones, and not to resist if confronted by an armed assailant.

Anyone with information about the robberies was encouraged to call the anonymous tip line at the department's Park Station at (415) 731-2865.
