Violent Sex Offender Escapes From Redwood City Mental Hospital

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) - A parolee with a history of violence, weapons and sex offenses has escaped from a peninsula mental health hospital, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff.

Derrick Sanders, 34, was discovered missing by staff at the Cordilleras Mental Health Facility in Redwood City during rounds early Friday. He is considered a high risk offender with a history of mental illness, according to the sheriff's office.

There was no immediate word on how he was able to escape.

Sanders is described as 5'11, 165 pounds and was last seen wearing a red polo shirt and blue jeans.

Police advised anyone who thinks they may have seen Sanders to call 911 and notify Law Enforcement immediately, rather than making contact. If you have any information on his location, call the Anonymus Witness Line at 1-800-547-2700.
