Elderly Woman Hit, Killed Crossing San Jose Street

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - An 81-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a car while crossing a San Jose street Wednesday morning.

The woman, a San Jose resident, was crossing North Jackson Avenue north of Alexian Drive around 6:20 a.m. when a southbound blue 1993 Toyota Tercel struck her, police said. She died at the scene.

The 50-year-old San Jose man who was driving the Toyota stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

Police closed the southbound lanes and sidewalk of North Jackson Avenue between Mather and Alexian drives after the collision, as well as one northbound lane.

Police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
