East Bay 'Dirty DUI' Private Investigator Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison
OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- The disgraced former police officer-turned-private investigator in Contra Costa County's sensational "Dirty DUIs" and stolen drugs scandal has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Federal prosecutors in Oakland say 51-year-old Christopher Butler pleaded guilty on Tuesday to seven felony counts related to drug dealing, framing drunken drivers and operating a Pleasant Hill brothel disguised as a massage parlor.
The former Antioch police officer longed for fame, money and a starring role in his own television reality show as a private investigator.
Butler's 2010 Lifetime show "P.I. Moms of San Francisco" featured a crew of female detectives tracking down and videotaping cheating husbands. Prosecutors say Butler orchestrated the men's drunken driving arrests after he was hired by ex-wives.
Defense lawyer William Gagen said Butler's ego overpowered good judgment.
